Custom Marble Products: How to Prepare a Quotation Brief

Prepare a custom marble product brief with dimensions, material references, quantities and packaging details for a clearer wholesale quotation.

For a custom marble tray, vase, bathroom accessory or lamp base, a useful quotation starts with a defined product specification. Send the intended use, dimensions, material direction, quantity per design and delivery destination. A reference photograph helps explain the appearance, but it cannot establish construction, weight or manufacturing requirements on its own.

1. Explain what the product must do

Describe the user and setting before discussing the finish. A hotel bathroom tray must fit the selected amenities and the available counter. A retail display base must support the intended merchandise. A vase intended to hold water needs a different review from a decorative vessel for dried stems.

State whether the enquiry covers a stone component or a finished assembly. For a soap dispenser, identify the pump and internal container responsibilities. For a lamp base, include the hardware interface and clarify who supplies, assembles and tests the electrical parts.

2. Provide dimensions that can be checked

Use one measurement unit throughout the brief. Give overall length, width and height, then identify functional measurements such as the inner space of a tray, the opening of a vessel or the bore of a lamp base. Mark critical dimensions separately from those that can be adjusted during development.

A drawing is helpful, but an annotated sketch can begin the discussion. Explain which features are essential and where the manufacturer may propose alternatives. Thin edges, deep cavities and projecting details need a feasibility review before their appearance is treated as a final specification.

3. Describe the material and acceptable variation

Include a stone reference and explain whether it represents an exact proposed material or only a color direction. Natural marble varies in veining and tone. One attractive photograph does not define the acceptable appearance of an entire order.

Ask how representative material samples will be reviewed, and identify the preferred surface finish. If matching matters within a set or between repeat orders, state that explicitly. See our marble, onyx and travertine comparison when preparing the material brief.

4. Separate quantity, branding and packaging

List the quantity for each design, size and material rather than only the total order quantity. Include the sample quantity, logo artwork, proposed marking position, labels and any retail packaging requirements. Ask the supplier to distinguish sample charges, product pricing and packaging costs in the quotation.

For shipment planning, provide the destination and explain whether products are going to a warehouse, retailer or project site. Confirm the scope of freight, handling and other delivery charges rather than assuming that two quotations include the same services.

A brief you can copy into your enquiry

  • Product and intended use:
  • Reference photographs or drawing:
  • Overall and critical dimensions:
  • Stone and finish references:
  • Quantity per design and sample quantity:
  • Branding, inserts and packaging:
  • Delivery destination and requested schedule:
  • Parts or specifications that still need advice:

What if the design is not finished?

Identify the unknowns instead of guessing. Ask for a feasibility discussion or an indicative quotation with its assumptions clearly recorded. The final price and schedule should be reviewed again when dimensions, material, components and packaging are agreed.
